Football Sneakers Have Arrived

Football fans, now is your chance to join the shoe game.

As you probably know, sneaker fashion is heavily influenced by the basketball culture and has been for the past number of decades. Shoes like the ever-popular Air Jordan all the way to the LeBron’s are obvious proof of this. However, what is recently rising to the surface is the emergence of football (yes, soccer) inspired lifestyle footwear. Released by NikeLab just over a week ago, the Nike Air Footscape Magista and Nike Free Mercurial Superfly have arrived on the market and definitely bring a new twist to the culture that isn’t regularly seen.

Taking direct inspiration from the Flyknit upper of the Mercurial Vapour Superfly and Magista football boots, these kicks are united with a Nike Free 5.0 and Footscape platform sole respectively. In doing so, that distinctive on-field look can be taken to the streets/gym in just as much comfort and style as other top-quality lifestyle and running shoes.

I personally see this as a significant step for football-themed sneakers. As someone who played a great deal of football growing up, I always liked wearing astro-turf versions of football boots for casual wear. Knowing that these kicks come with more comfort and flavour than regular astro-turfs means a definite thumbs up from me.

Looking to the future, one must eagerly hope that Nike and other brands alike release cooler and cleverer combinations that push the boundaries of innovation and imagination, helping football fans worldwide to express their off-the-pitch shoe game in a unique way.

Are there any football boots you want to see come to life in a lifestyle version? I would love to see the Nike Tiempo Legend IV solely for its comfort. Keep scrolling for more eye-catching images and let me know what you think of these mash-ups in the comments below.
