The million-dollar question “why care about sneakers?” was one I started to answer in a piece I wrote last month (yet to read it? Click here to wise up). As it mentions, “Sneakerheads love sneakers not just because of how they look, but because of its history and what the shoe represents.” Well today it’s time to delve into that history and make sense of it all!
Not long ago I stumbled across a documentary, Just For Kicks (2005), which coolly and cleverly explains the rise of the sneaker culture, as well as the significant influence it has gained from U.S. street culture and hip hop. Today I’d like to share that with you (below). It’s an 1 hour and 20 minutes in length but definitely time well spent. So grab your popcorn and put your feet up, this is not your average history lesson!

A DVD copy of Just For Kicks can be purchased on Amazon. Stay tuned for some sort of review. Till then, tread softly.
