Hip-hop heads and sneakerheads – here’s something you can both jam to.
Undoubtedly one of the most talked about rappers this year with the drop of his latest album in March, Kendrick Lamar is finally entering the kick collab game with Reebok, a brand who have been pumping out kicks like their classic “Classic” range (pun intended) since the 80’s.
The “To Pimp a Butterfly” icon has put his spin on the Reebok Ventilator. His inspiration? To unite the Bloods and the Crips; two opposing gangs in his hometown of Compton, California. The theme of unity is promoted well throughout these sneakers, each shoe with an off-white base colour and then either red or blue accents – the colours representing the respective gangs. Under the tongue of both shoes are the words “NEUTRAL”, which further emphasises Kendrick’s desire to see togetherness and peace amongst the rival groups. See more pictures below.
So what do you think? Impressed with the shoe and/or its backstory? Comment below your thoughts on Kendrick Lamar getting a sneaker collaboration with Reebok and deliver your verdict on whether you agree that a butterfly isn’t the only thing he can pimp.
